A man died this Sunday after being attacked by a lioness in a zoo in João Pessoa, the capital of the state of Paraíba in northeastern Brazil, according to official sources. The man, whose identity is unknown, climbed a wall over six meters high, bypassed security railings, and entered the enclosure at the Parque Zoobotânico Arruda Câmara. Despite security staff's attempts to stop him, the man acted quickly and was attacked by the animal, dying at the scene. According to police, the act may have been a possible suicide. The portal VoxPB shared a video of the incident on its Instagram account, recorded by a visitor at the scene. The footage shows the man climbing down a tree trunk while the lioness slowly approaches him and then attacks him when he reaches the ground. Following the attack, the zoo immediately closed to the public to ensure safety and allow for the removal of the body. The park administration emphasized that it complies with technical norms and safety standards and assured full cooperation with authorities to clarify the facts. The institution deeply regrets the incident, expressed solidarity with the victim's family, and announced it will remain closed until the investigation is concluded.
